The Central College Track and Field teams wrapped up the American Rivers Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships Saturday, with the men finishing in fourth and the women’s team coming in fifth.
Nine underclassmen contributed points for the Dutch women’s track and field team on Saturday. All but one of Central’s point scorers on Saturday were freshmen or sophomores. Abbi Roerdink just missed the podium in the 400-meter dash, placing fourth in 58.65 seconds. Abby Gruver was fifth in the 400-meter hurdles in 1:05.59. Gruver and Roerdink led off both the 4×100-meter and 4×400-meter relay teams alongside Elsie Thoreson. Lauren Brown joined the fourth 4×400 team (4:00.29) and Kasey Pelzer was on the sixth place 4×100 squad (50.67). Abby Marr was fifth in the hammer throw (154 feet, 4 inches) and Cali Coffman tied for seventh in the pole vault (9-4.25). Megan Johnson was seventh in the 5,000-meter run (18.36.89) and Rayna Sickels was eighth in the 100-meter hurdles (15.93 seconds).
The Central men’s team added two more all-conference performances to its weekend total. After winning the long jump on Friday, Brock Lewis came back Saturday with another all-conference performance in the triple jump, finishing second (45 feet, 10.75 inches). Kale Purcell was fifth in the triple jump (44-7). After finishing eighth in the decathlon, Nick Thompson became an all-conference javelin thrower by finishing third (160-7). Luke Pavlat was seventh (155-5) and Reid Pakkebier was eighth (155-0). Lucas Heitz scored points in the 110-meter hurdles and the pole vault, finishing in fifth in the hurdles (15.14 seconds) and sixth in the pole vault (12-11.75). Connor Miklos was sixth in the 110 hurdles (15.78 seconds) and Alec Stahl was seventh in the pole vault (12-11.75). Carter Tryon was fifth in the 400-meter hurdles (55.69), Noah Jorgenson was sixth in the 800-meter run (1:55.88), Nolan Reynolds was seventh in the 400-meter run (49.51), Will DeHaan was seventh in the 1500-meter run (3:55.70) and Caleb Silver was seventh in the 5,000-meter run (15:12.04). Jaxon Thompson, Grant Boyse, Reynolds, and Tryon were fourth in the 4×400-meter relay (3:22.58). Brian Hart, Lewis, Carson Zeitler and Reynolds were fifth in the 4×100-meter relay (42.89).
The Dutch will compete in last chance meets next week with the official schedule pending individual athletes standings in the qualifying lists. The majority of the Central athletes will likely go to Augustana College’s (Ill.) Midwest Twilight Qualifier on Thursday but other options include meets at North Central College (Ill.), St. Olaf College (Minn.) and the University of Wisconsin – La Crosse.
