The Pella City Council will hold the first reading of an ordinance to allow for eventual assumption of control of Pella Community Ambulance at their meeting Tuesday. If adopted, a new chapter 39 would be added to Pella City Code, establishing a city ambulance service.

In April, the council approved a conditional resolution of support that authorized staff to proceed with the transfer of Pella Community Ambulance assets and employees to become publicly-operated. Also included in this ordinance:

• Organizational Structure: The Ambulance Service would be under the general supervision of the Ambulance Chief who subsequently reports to the City Administrator.
• Temporary Advisory Board: For the remainder of 2022, a temporary advisory board would be established to oversee the initial operations of the Ambulance Service. This board will consist of six members who will be appointed by the Mayor, subject to Council approval. This advisory board would automatically dissolve on January 1, 2023.
• Service Outside City Limits: Currently, the Pella Community Ambulance serves areas outside of the city limits of Pella. The attached ordinance authorizes continuing to serve areas outside of the corporate limits through December 31, 2022. After that date, agreements would have to be approved by the Pella City Council.
• Fees: Ambulance Service fees will be established through a resolution.

The Pella City Council meets Tuesday at 6 p.m. in the Pella Public Safety Complex, which can also be heard online: https://join.me/CityofPella
