A week filled with state qualifiers from Pella High School added a team and an athlete to what has been another remarkable spring on Wednesday. The #2 in Class 1A Pella boys tennis team advanced to the State Team Semifinals, first qualifying for the state tournament with a 5-0 win over Shenandoah and then a 5-1 victory over #7 Ballard in the quarterfinals. The Bombers defeated Pella Christian 5-1 earlier in the day on Eagle Lane to advance. The #2 Dutch join #1 Xavier, #3 Spencer, and #4 Wahlert on Tuesday, May 31st for the 1A final four at the Waveland Tennis Courts in Des Moines.

Pella girls golfer Karsyn Lyons placed 3rd with a scorecard of 90 at Edmundson Golf Course in Oskaloosa to qualify as an individual for the 3A state meet. The Dutch girls placed 5th out of nine teams at the Regional meet, 12 strokes off of a team state bid in a competitive field. The 2022 Class 3A state girls golf meet is at River Valley Golf Course north of Adel on May 26 and 27.

While the spring teams of the Dutch keep their seasons going, the Pella baseball team is off to a strong start, defeating Centerville 12-2 in six innings to get to 3-0 on the season Wednesday night. Pella Head Coach Jesse Jablonski says they’ve had three strong contests to begin the new campaign. Jason Knox, Keegan Hansen, Gage Gift, and Isaiah Kettler all had 2 hits; Jack Howard added 8 Ks in 4 innings in his start on the mound, and Cole Hillman tallied 5 Ks in 2 frames. The Dutch are 3-0 and next head to Martensdale-St. Marys on Monday.
