The team season for the Pella girls tennis team ended in the state quarterfinals, as the #4 Dutch fell to #6 Assumption 5-1 Saturday in Grinnell. The lone win for Pella came from #1 singles player Emily Blom, who took down the #2 ranked player in 1A Mary Rolfstad 6-1, 6-4. Blom will continue into the state individual tournament, opening against Allison Pavlovec on Friday, May 27th.

Several athletes in green and white will continue their postseason journey from the spring teams and the softball teams starts their summer slate of games Monday. The #7 in 3A Pella boys golf team travels to Ames for the two-day state golf tournament. Competition begins at 10 a.m. Monday at the Veenker Memorial Golf Course. Will Simpson of the Dutch enters the tournament with the 2nd best adjusted 18-hole average for individuals, and will contend for a solo state title.

Ranked 8th in Class 3A, the Pella boys soccer team opens the substate playoffs at home vs. Oskaloosa. The two schools clashed in a match the ended in favor of Pella in penalty kicks in the regular season. The match begins at 6:30 p.m. and tickets should be purchased through Hometown Tickets at the IHSAA website.

Pella’s softball team begins their competitive season Monday at Colfax-Mingo, while the 3-0 baseball team hits the road to perennial Class 1A power Martensdale-St. Mary’s. Softball action begins at 7 p.m. and the baseball game on the road is at 7:30 p.m. for varsity competition.
