The Indianola softball and baseball teams are in action tonight, with softball playing in their season opener and baseball after a rare day off due to a rainout Tuesday.
The Indians softball team opens the season ranked 3rd after being reclassified in 4A in the offseason, and will match up with former CIML Conference rival Des Moines East in a doubleheader on the road, beginning at 5:45pm. The Indians will have to replace several starters lost to graduation including pitcher Kate Kralik, but return starters Mara Bishop, Selia Becker, and Hanna Graham among others.
The Indianola baseball team is 6-1 after a busy start to the season, and will also go on the road to a former close rival from the CIML Conference, taking on the Tigers from WDM Valley. Indianola has used nine pitchers in their first seven games of the season, that includes wins from sophomore Luke Rockhold and freshman Andrew DeWall, and are holding opponents to just a .188 batting average. Head coach Jon Fitzpatrick tells KNIA Sports the Indians have a deep team, and he is still learning how everyone fits into the puzzle and where the athletes can best perform in the right situation.
The game starts tonight at 7:30pm.
