Lawmakers in Iowa have wrapped up business for the 2022 Legislative Session after several weeks of delay in an effort to sway House Republicans opposed to Student First Scholarships. State Senator Ken Rozenboom believes while the issue was tabled this year, he’s confident there will be future action in expanding public resources to families to attend private institutions.
Many House Republicans opposed the effort, citing concerns over taxpayer dollars going to private institutions and the impact providing scholarships could have with families incentivized to leave public schools, especially in small rural districts. Governor Kim Reynolds has endorsed several candidates opposing incumbent Republicans that did not support the measure.
