It was a mixed Friday of results for the Indianola summer teams heading into the Memorial Day weekend, as the baseball team split with Des Moines East, winning game one 6-3 and falling in game two 5-4, while the #3 in 4A softball team fell to #9 in 5A Southeast Polk by a 4-3 score in a delayed opening day.
In the top ten softball showdown, Indianola fell behind 2-0, but rallied to tie it up after the halfway point. They fell behind again, but could only muster one more run in the 6th. Mara Bishop, Jordyn Gripp, and Izzie Benge each had two hits.
Indianola dropped their 2nd baseball game of the season in game two of the doubleheader with the Scarlets of Des Moines East. In the opener, the road team hung on after a sixth-inning three spot for East. Bennett Brueck earned the victory on the mound, striking out five in three innings, needing only 42 pitches to do so. Luke Rockhold added five strikeouts in two innings as well. A four-run 4th inning for East in game two gave them the lead, and a three-run 5th inning for Indianola pushed the game back to a one-run deficit, but they couldn’t add any more runs.
The Indianola softball team is 0-1, while the baseball team is 7-2; both are off until Monday, when the softball girls host Carlisle and the boys travel to their Warren County rival. Hear Indianola Memorial Day Softball on 94.3 KNIA, with pregame at 7:15 p.m.
