Playing host for the first time this season, both of the Pella Christian summer sports teams enter tonight’s home opener against Albia in the Class 2A rankings.

The Eagles softball squad began the season ranked as the #7 team in Class 2A, while the P.C. baseball team joined the rankings this week at #9. The Pella Christian baseball squad entered the rankings after their first 3-0 start to a season since 2016. The 2022 Eagles squad started the season defeating Carlisle, then knocking off Norwalk in extra innings, before dominating Des Moines Christian. Eagles Head Baseball Coach Braden Shull said it’s been a fun start to the season, but added the team needs to remain focused to maintain this success.

“I think our start is pretty awesome. It’s been a while I think since the team has started 3-0 and I’m really happy for the guys, and I’m really proud of the way that they’ve started the year and then going forward, we really need to keep them focused and keep them grounded. Last year, I think when we started to win some games, they might have started to look ahead on some things, and we gotta keep him focused in the moment and you know they have some more maturity this year and I’m hoping that’ll be easier to do.”

The Pella Christian softball team has begun the season with a 2-2 record. The Eagles two wins came in dominate fashion against Des Moines Christian and in a hard-fought game against Class 2A’s #13 ranked Durant. The two losses P.C. has on the summer came to Class 3A’s #8 ranked Bondurant-Farrar and Norwalk.

Tonight’s softball game between Pella Christian and Albia begins at 7:15 p.m., while first pitch on the baseball diamond for the Eagles and Blue Demons is set for 7:30 p.m.
