The Indianola softball team grabbed their first two wins of the season to open Little Hawkeye Conference play with a sweep of Class 2A’s #7 ranked Pella Christian Wednesday night. The Indians won the first game 7-5, before going on to win 17-6 in the second game of the doubleheader that was heard live on the KRLS3 stream at KNIAKRLS.com.
In the nightcap of the doubleheader, the Eagles grabbed the early 1-0 advantage in the top of the first inning after Emri Agre singled and later scored on an error off the bat of Emma Eekhoff. The Indians would even the score at one after Brynn Ortlund singled, stole two bases, and scored on a sacrifice fly by Kiley Kindelspire. After a scoreless second frame, Indianola grabbed the lead as a Kyra Robins solo home run sparked a four-run third inning. Trailing 5-1 in the fourth, Pella Christian plated two runs in the top of the frame, but the Indians responded with three more runs in the bottom of the inning and two more runs in the fifth to extend their lead to 10-3. The Eagles answered with three runs in the top of the sixth inning, but a seven-run sixth inning capped off by a two-run home run by Kindelspire ended the game after sixth inning via the run-rule.
With their wins, the Indianola softball team’s record improved to 2-3 on the summer, while Pella Christian’s record fell to 3-4 this year. The Eagles softball team returns to the diamond tonight at 7:15 p.m. on the road at Colfax Mingo. The Indians softball squad is off today and next host Dallas Center-Grimes on Friday at 7:30 p.m.
