Pella and Norwalk each took one game of a baseball doubleheader last night to open Little Hawkeye Conference play. The Dutch rallied to win the opener 10-6, while the Warriors dominated the nightcap 10-2, which was heard live on 92.1 KRLS.
Norwalk jumped out to a 4-0 lead in game one, only to see Pella score six third inning runs to take the lead. After the Warriors tied the game, the Dutch put up four sixth inning runs to earn the victory. Jason Knox went all seven innings on the hill for Pella.
The Warriors controlled game two, with a four run third inning busting it open. Ian Fisher struck out five in four innings to earn the victory, and CJ Davis punctuated it with a seventh-inning home run, Norwalk’s first of the season.
Pella coach Jesse Jablonski says that he’s happy to come out with a split against one of the top teams in the conference.
“We got contributions up and down the lineup in that first game and Jason threw a heck of a game on the mound. He really competed really well for us, and I can’t ask for much more than we got in the opener. The bats went a little quiet in the second game, but all-in-all, it was still a really good night for us.
Pella now sits at 7-3 on the season and 1-1 in LHC play and they’ll host Oskaloosa tomorrow night. Norwalk is 7-5, also 1-1 in the conference, and they’re back in action tonight at home against Winterset.
