indianola-8

The Mustangs of Dallas Center-Grimes swept the Indianola boys and girls of summer Friday night, the Indians softball team falling 7-3, and the baseball squad falling 4-3 in a game heard live on 94.3 KNIA.

Indianola baseball scored a run in the first inning off of an RBI single from Bennett Brueck, only to see the Mustangs answer right back, scoring the next four runs to take a 4-1 lead that held all the way to the 6th. The Indians had the bases loaded, but only scored one run on a wild pitch, then mounted a 7th inning rally to score a run and have the bases loaded but couldn’t get over the final hump. The Mustangs ended the game with five hits, and scored all four runs with two outs. The Indians fall to 9-5 on the season, and travel to Grinnell on Monday for a conference doubleheader.

The Indians softball team fell behind a run in the first inning, but got a homerun from Mara Bishop to quickly tie the score. That would be the only offense the Indians would score until the sixth inning however, as the Mustangs mustered up six more runs to take a 7-1 lead. The Indians rallied in the sixth with RBI hits from Izzie Benge and Selia Becker, but were too far behind to make the comeback. Head coach Stacy Evans tells KNIA Sports the Indians had opportunities to make plays, but couldn’t string enough hits together to get the runs they needed, and made some defensive errors that will need to be corrected in order to win games like these.

Indianola falls to 2-4, and play in a tournament in Des Moines today.
