Central College’s athletics communications office came away with a pair of honors in the College Sports Information Directors of America’s Fred Stabley Sr. Writing Contest. All entries were judged in a combined field that included NCAA Division I, II and III institutions as well as NAIA schools and two-year colleges.
Central was awarded first place in CoSIDA District 7 for event coverage with “Central Football Playoff Run Ends but Hawkins Sets NCAA Mark.”
Central was also named runner-up in District 7 in the General Feature/Blog category for a story that appeared in the college’s alumni magazine, Civitas, “Pandemic Athletics: Central Navigates a New Way to Play.”
Both stories were written by athletics communications director Larry Happel, who has served in that role at Central since 1979. He previously won the CoSIDA writing contest National Story of the Year Award in 2017 and has received 12 CoSIDA writing awards overall as well as one from the Council for Advancement and Support of Education. He’s received more than 35 CoSIDA publication awards and was inducted into the CoSIDA Hall of Fame in 2010. He’s a former CoSIDA board member and past D3SIDA president.
