The Pella Softball team recognized their favorite teachers Monday.
Oskaloosa found success in the Tulip City during a pair of Little Hawkeye Conference doubleheaders, as Pella split with their Highway 163 rivals on the baseball diamond, falling 4-0 and winning 11-1, while the softball team dropped both contests 7-2 and 15-0, with game two heard live on 92.1 KRLS Monday night.
On the softball diamond, game one featured both teams scoring two runs in the 2nd inning, but multiple sport All-Stater Faith DeRonde dominated in the circle from there and the road team added tallies in the 3rd and 5th innings before finishing off the Dutch with a three-run sixth. DeRonde opened game two depositing the first pitch thrown of the game by Kamryn Long into left field, and Oskaloosa never looked back. An eight-run 6th put the game into mercy rule territory. Pella Head Coach Katie Gravert says after a competitive weekend at the Oskaloosa tournament against ranked 3A foes, it was a bit of a let down to struggle in a return to action Monday.
In baseball, the Dutch offense had no solutions for Oskaloosa Pitcher Alex Christ in the opener, who gave up just four hits and struck out eight. Game two featured 15 baserunners, 11 of whom came home, behind a strong 11 strikeout performance by Jason Knox over five innings.
Pella’s softball team falls to 5-7 overall and 1-4 against conference foes, while the baseball team is 8-5 and 2-3 in league competition. Both head to Dallas Center-Grimes Wednesday for a varsity conference game.
