Mother Nature got the best of the varsity ball games in Norwalk Tuesday night as the Warriors’ softball contest vs. Boone and the baseball game against North Polk were both suspended by lightning and eventually called off due to wet conditions. As of now, there are no plans to complete either game.

The Warrior softball team, which entered the night riding an eight-game winning streak, led Boone 7-1 in the bottom of the fourth when play was suspended for a second time. Kaylee Cary hit a two-run home run prior to the stoppage and teammates Maddie Gullion and Jaylynn Brandt added two hits each. Pitcher Olivia Dougherty struck out eight in four quality innings in the circle. All statistics will be nullified, however, if the game is canceled.

In the baseball game, which was being broadcast on KNIA 94.3 FM, Norwalk trailed Class 3A 10th-ranked North Polk 2-1 in the bottom of the third when play was halted with Warrior runners on first and second. Trailing 2-0 at the start of the inning, Norwalk had a two-out rally going when Tucker Beving doubled, Dylan Christensen walked and Vinny Mauro delivered an RBI single just prior to the suspension of play. According to Norwalk baseball coach Chad Wiedmann, the game will not be completed.

Both Warrior squads will be back in action tonight, playing Little Hawkeye Conference games at Grinnell.
