The Norwalk softball team extended its winning streak to nine games Wednesday night with a 3-0 win at Grinnell, getting 15 strikeouts in a one-hit shutout by ace pitcher Zadie Wadle.

The 13th-ranked (Class 4A) Warriors broke a scoreless tie in the fifth before adding two insurance runs in the top of the seventh, improving to 10-1 overall and 7-0 in the Little Hawkeye Conference. Grinnell dropped to 3-7 and 0-6, respectively.

Jaylynn Brandt hit a pair of RBI singles to lead the Norwalk offense, Wadle helped her own cause with two hits as well and Grace Dehmer added a pinch-hit sacrifice fly.

Also on Wednesday, the Norwalk baseball team battled 2nd-ranked (Class 3A) Grinnell to a scoreless tie for eight and a half innings before the host Tigers pulled out a 1-0 win in the bottom of the ninth.

Vinny Mauro, DJ Harris, Ian Fisher and CJ Davis all had singles for the Warriors, who saw their five-game winning streak come to an end in dropping to 11-6 overall and 4-3 in the Little Hawkeye. Grinnell, which won the game on Jaylen Eitel’s two-out walk-off single, improved to 16-1 overall and 5-1 in league play.

Braxton Shaffer and Braden Blackford combined on the shutout for the Tigers while Dylan Christensen pitched seven innings of two-hit scoreless ball for Norwalk. DJ Harris took the loss in relief.

The Warriors will play a non-conference game at Des Moines East today at 5:30 p.m. before hosting Dallas Center-Grimes for a varsity doubleheader on Friday.

The Norwalk softball team will have tonight off, then host No. 12 DC-G in a varsity twin bill Friday at 5:30 p.m. Game two will be broadcast on KNIA-KRLS.com on the KNIA3 stream.
