Another round of showers and thunderstorms remains possible today ahead of summer heat returning by Monday. According to the National Weather Service, a slight risk for severe weather is in the forecast primarily this evening for scattered thunderstorms capable of producing large hail, damaging winds, and heavy rainfall. Most area rain gauges were filled with 2-3″ of rainfall this week, including 2.49″ at Lake Red Rock, 2.92″ in Knoxville, and 2.76″ in Indianola. Brief flash flooding remains a concern in any thunderstorm-related downpour later today. Daytime highs will continue to climb this weekend, approaching and potentially topping 90 on Sunday and leaping into the mid-to-upper 90s with windy conditions Monday and Tuesday.
