The Knoxville Police Department this week received approval from the Knoxville City Council on a new simulator for training. Knoxville Police Chief Aaron Fuller spoke with KNIA/KRLS News about the simulator.

“Earlier this year the Knoxville Police Department partnered with the State Center Police Department, The Marion County Sheriff’s Department, and The Warren County Sheriff’s Department to train our reserves. The State Center police Chief received a grant from the State of Iowa to help with the training of the reserves, and that relationship led to the purchase of the simulator to share between the four Departments.”

“It will allow us to train everything from marksmanship,  de-escalation,  planning for high-risk injuries which we rarely do, and it also allows us to train for active shooters. What I like about it is we can use our communication skills in an attempt to de-escalate a situation.”

The simulator will be shared between the agencies.
