Both Knoxville Summer Sports Squads were in action on Saturday with mixed results. The softball squad went 1-2 at the Creston Invitational on Saturday. The class 4A #10 Panthers began the day by dominating Atlantic 10-2. Knoxville would fall but be competitive with ranked opponents its last two games in falling to class 5A #15 Ankeny 5-3 and class 4A #6 Dallas Center-Grimes 4-1. The Panthers stand at 8-4 on the season. The Baseball Squad traveled to Newton for a matinee affair with the Cardinals and came away with a 12-7 loss. The Panthers and Cardinals went back-and-forth for the 1st inning-and-a-half until Newton stuck for seven runs in the 3rd to take control. Trenton Kingery took the loss going 2 2/3 innings. Luke Spaur went 3/3 with an RBI to lead Knoxville’s offense. Baseball is now 9-8 on the season. Both Knoxville squads come home Monday to host Chariton.
