A burst of late-summer heat will blast the region Monday and Tuesday with strong winds and increased humidity. According to the National Weather Service, daytime highs will reach the mid-to-upper 90s in the afternoon and lows will stay in the low-to-mid 70s overnight. The previous records for heat are 97 on June 13th in Marion County (1987) and 98 (1918) on June 14th, and the warmest overnight temperatures on record for those two dates is 75 both times (1981 and 1994). Heat index values will likely top 100 and wind gusts will approach 30 miles per hour both days. The next best chance for precipitation is Tuesday night, with a slight cool down expected for the rest of the week as highs drop into the upper 80s and low 90s.
