A little relief from the heat could come with strong thunderstorms later today. The National Weather Service Storm Prediction Center has issued a slight risk for severe weather this afternoon and evening for scattered storms capable of producing large hail and strong winds. This comes after record breaking heat to start the week, and while a brief break is expected with highs in the upper 80s and low 90s through Saturday, dangerous temperatures will return by Sunday and could climb to near 100 by early next week. Residents are reminded to take frequent breaks in air conditioning and to avoid prolonged outdoor exposure to heat. Stay tuned to KNIA/KRLS for the latest weather information.
