The Norwalk softball team split a non-conference doubleheader with Dowling Catholic on Tuesday night. The host Warriors rallied to win the first game 6-4, then dropped the night cap 11-6 after falling behind 7-0 through two innings.

Norwalk, ranked fifth in Class 4A, finished the night at 13-3 overall while the Maroons are now 6-8.

Game one saw the Warriors trail 4-2 before plating four runs in the bottom of the fifth and holding on behind the relief pitching of Zadie Wadle. Nyah Hulbert, Jaylynn Brandt, Kaylee Cary, Addi Downe and Morgan Weeks all had two hits for Norwalk. Wadle relieved Olivia Dougherty in the fifth and struck out four in three scoreless innings to notch the win.

Dowling Catholic led game two 9-0 in the fifth before the Warriors mounted a rally that proved too little, too late. Brandt had another two-hit game for Norwalk.

The Warrior softball team will play another varsity doubleheader today at Pella Christian starting at 5:30 p.m. Game two will be broadcast on KNIA-KRLS.com (KNIA3) with the pregame slated to begin at approximately 7:20.

Norwalk enters the twin bill tied for first place in the Little Hawkeye Conference with a 9-1 league record. The Eagles, ranked ninth in Class 2A, are 1-9 in the Little Hawkeye and 5-12 overall.

The two teams met in the season opener back on May 23 in Norwalk, with the Warriors prevailing by a score of 9-5.
