A Marion County Sheriff’s Deputy pulled over a vehicle on Tuesday at 10:18 pm on Highway T-15 due to the car not having enough headlamps. Marion County dispatch advised the officer that the driver, 32-year-old Justin Dean Vermeer of Des Moines, had a warrant out for his arrest. The officer saw a clear baggy in the car that had a clear crystal-like substance in it that tested positive for methamphetamine. There were other drug-related items found in the car, including a syringe that had a clear liquid in it that tested positive for methamphetamine, and a smoking device that had marijuana in it. Vermeer was charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance Third Offense, a Class D Felony.
As with any criminal case, a charge is merely an accusation and a defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
