The Indianola School Board approved a raise in school lunch prices for the 2022-23 school year, after the federal free lunch program came to a close at the end of the school year. Superintendent Art Sathoff tells KNIA News the cost of the lunches won’t be rising significantly, with elementary and secondary lunches as well as secondary breakfasts raised by a nickel, adult lunches raised by 20 cents, and adult breakfasts up by a dime. Sathoff also said they are trying to keep costs in line with food prices without being too hard on parents and families.
“We have the slight increase in there because we don’t want to put ourselves in a position in a year or two down the road we have to jump it up by 15 or 20 cents. We are going to have increased prices of foods that we purchase as well, the things that we purchase. And also get kind of dictated to sometimes because it is a federal program, so there’s always that element to it. I feel like we are being mindful of the pressures that families are under and just making a very minimal increase.”
