The Indianola baseball team surged into a share of the lead of the Little Hawkeye Conference after the first rotation completed following their baseball doubleheader sweep of Pella, 4-2 and 12-0, with game two featured on the KRLS3 stream Wednesday night.
Pella had their opportunities in the opener, stranding 10 baserunners, and a pair of Indianola home runs were the difference, including a blast by Noah Johnston in the top of the 7th. That momentum propelled the road team heading into game two, where they scored in every inning and multiple runs in four of those frames in a five-inning contest ended by the mercy rule. Brady Blake was 3-for-4 in game two and Luke Rockhold struck out seven Dutch batters to earn the shutout victory.
Indianola finishes the first half of the conference season with a chance to win it, as their 9-2 record matches #1 in 3A Grinnell, and moves to 16-6 overall as they travel to Valley tonight for a single varsity non-conference game. Pella falls to 11-9 overall and 4-7 against league competition, and they are off until they travel to Norwalk Friday, which can be heard on 92.1 KRLS.
