The Norwalk softball team split a pair of 4-1 decisions at Saturday’s Oskaloosa Indian Classic, putting the Class 4A fifth-ranked Warriors at 17-4 overall with a little more than two weeks left in the regular season.

Norwalk started the day with a 4-1 win over Class 1A No. 11 Sigourney in six innings. Junior Zadie Wadle pitched a four-hitter with 14 strikeouts and no walks while Nyah Hulbert led the offensive attack with three stolen bases and two runs scored.

The Warriors plated three runs in the third inning as Grace Dehmer tripled and Hulbert, Jaylynn Brandt and Kaylee Cary followed with RBI base hits. They added an insurance run in the fifth.

In the afternoon game, Class 4A No. 13 Knoxville scored two runs each in the first and second innings and held off Norwalk 4-1 in five innings. The Warriors committed three errors behind pitcher Olivia Dougherty, who notched 10 strikeouts in defeat.

Hulbert, Brandt and Wadle had Norwalk’s only three hits and Jada Livingston scored the team’s lone run in the fifth, when the Warriors stranded the bases loaded to end the game.

Norwalk will return to Oskaloosa for a Little Hawkeye Conference doubleheader Monday at 5:30 p.m. The Warriors defeated the Indians 3-2 in eight innings back on June 3.

The Norwalk baseball team, which is 14-10 overall, will also play a varsity doubleheader at Oskaloosa Monday at 5:30. The Warriors won the first matchup by a score of 4-3.
