Area high school competitive shooting teams have been participating in state competitions this month.
The Pella Christian Clay Target team placed 2nd and the Pella Shooting Team placed 4th this past weekend at the 2022 Iowa Clay Target Championships in the Senior Division Sporting Clays Championship. The Indianola Youth Trap Team placed 7th out of 24 total teams participating, and Knoxville also competed.
From Pella Christian, they placed three squads in the top ten, and their highest scoring individuals were Nikolle Kussatz, Mitchell Van Zee, and Carson Abrams, with Mitchell and Nikolle named to the All-State Sporting Clays team. Kussatz was the top female competitor at the event.
From Pella High, their top three scorers were Logan Bruxvoort, Atticus Vos, and Trenton Shawler. Among squads, the Pella JV Gold and Silver teams were 1st and 2nd in that division. Pella’s lead varsity group placed 8th, with Carver Van Zee, Deacon Yeoman, and Ian Beyer. Haley Starmer placed 5th among ladies in all senior divisions and 4th in the varsity category, with Erin Mathes 6th and Josey Ridley 8th among varsity competitors.
From Indianola, Cannon Roberson, Tyler Tucker, and Mitchell Hugen were their top three scores recorded. Owen Carlton was 7th among men in the Jr. Varsity division.
