The softball champion of the Little Hawkeye Conference could very well be determined in Dallas Center Monday night when the Norwalk Warriors take on Dallas Center-Grimes at 7:30 p.m. The game will be broadcast live on FM 94.3 KNIA, with pregame coverage starting at approximately 7:15.
The Class 4A fourth-ranked Warriors and sixth-ranked Fillies split a doubleheader in Norwalk back on June 10. Norwalk won the first game 1-0 and DC-G prevailed in eight innings, 4-2, in the night cap.
Norwalk enters the rubber match with an overall record of 24-4 and stands 17-1 in the Little Hawkeye Conference. Dallas Center-Grimes is 16-1 in conference play and took a 24-6 overall record into the weekend. The winner will take over sole possession of first place in the Little Hawkeye standings.
Norwalk coach Beau Livingston says that his team has made big strides on the field since June 10 and he believes that DC-G can likely make the same statement. He is excited for the opportunity in front of his Warrior players.
“I’m jacked up. Monday can’t get here soon enough,” Livingston said.
“Monday is what we sign up for. Monday is the type of game that we want to be in… I’m excited for the atmosphere, I’m excited for the challenge. Our kids will be ready to go.”
The Norwalk baseball team will also play at Dallas Center-Grimes Monday night to complete their season series. The Mustangs swept a doubleheader in Norwalk June 10 by scores of 6-2 and 1-0.
The Warriors currently stand at 15-15 overall and 8-10 in the Little Hawkeye Conference. DC-G is 15-14 overall and 11-6 in league play.
