The Pella Christian softball team’s scheduled home tournament at Pella Sports Park Saturday was canceled due to weather, and now both of the Eagles summer sports teams will embark on the final week of their regular seasons.
Pella Christian welcomes Oskaloosa to Eagle Lane tomorrow night for a single Little Hawkeye Conference softball game and a baseball doubleheader. The Eagles softball team was swept 12-1 and 4-0 by the Indians back on June 10th, while the baseball games scheduled that day at Oskaloosa were canceled due to unplayable field conditions. While Pella Christian hopes to finish off the regular season strong, Eagles head softball coach Karen Harrill says her squad is ready to see how they stack up in Class 2A.
“We don’t play very many 2A schools. The only 2A’s we’ve played are Durant and Colfax-Mingo, and so we’re ready. We’re ready to get somebody our own size here, because we’re tired of playing all these big schools. So, I would have loved to have had a home game, but we just don’t have the record, which is unfortunate because I think we’re like 21st as far as toughness of schedule. But we got what we got, and now we go forward.”
Tomorrow’s baseball doubleheader between the Eagles and Indians begins at 5:30 p.m., while softball begins with a JV game at 5:30 and will be followed by the varsity game at 7:15 p.m.
