The Lake Red Rock Balloonfest will be held Friday, July 8 through Sunday, July 10 at the North Overlook Beach. Balloonfest committee member Matt Kissinger spoke with KNIA/KRLS News about the history of the event.

Balloon Fest started 11 years ago and it was an idea to bring in hot air balloons to Lake Red Rock and Marion County. Hot air balloons are very popular in the state and we have the lake so we wanted to put together an event. The pilots love the event and we get huge turnouts each year as the event gets bigger.”

Kissinger talks about how having the lake makes this a special event.

“For Iowa Lake, Red Rock is the largest lake and the pilots do not normally get to fly over water, so it makes it exciting for them and the spectators. We get a lot of boats out on the lake at the same time, so it makes a great stage for a very active weekend for the area.”
