The Indianola City Council held a study session regarding the state of the Indianola Police Department K9 Program at their most recent regular meeting, looking into the possibility of acquiring a new K9 dog. City Manager Ben Reeves tells KNIA News the department has had three K9’s as part of the department in the past, and it would help out with drug enforcement.
“Our officers have been working on a grant program and have acquired some grant funding initially to work towards getting a new K9 unit. Detective Stewart gave a great presentation about the merits of having a K9 program and really talked to the council about the other financial aspects that would be necessary to reinstate the program going forward.”
Reeves said the council was supportive of continuing to apply for more grants for the program, and the process is moving forward.
