The Central College men’s basketball team will play in three non-conference November tournaments, including the home-court Central Classic, as Joe Steinkamp returns to the program as its new head coach.

Steinkamp makes his Central men’s basketball head coaching debut November 8th against Waldorf College at Forest City. It’s part of a women’s-men’s doubleheader, with Moran Lonning making her own first appearance as Central head coach in the women’s game.

Central then travels to Superior, Wisconsin for the Merrill Thompson Classic November 11-12 and a week later head to St. Louis, Missouri for the Webster Classic November 18-19. The Central Classic is set for the following week on November 25-26 at P.H. Kuyper Gym.

The Dutch open their American Rivers schedule with a November 30th contest at Nebraska Wesleyan University in Lincoln, Nebraska.

Steinkamp, a 2003 Central graduate and former team co-captain, arrived on campus as a player 22 years ago. He served two stints as an assistant coach for a combined 10 seasons, then spent the past five years helping turn around the Dutch women’s basketball program as head coach. Under Steinkamp, the Central women reached the American Rivers tournament twice, the program’s first tourney appearances since 2004-05. As men’s assistant, Steinkamp was a part of three NCAA Division III tournament qualifiers.
