The journey to the Class 2A State Tournament in Carroll begins today for the Pella Christian baseball team, as they travel to Indian Hills Community College in Centerville to take on Albia.
The opening round district game between the Eagles and Blue Demons is the second meeting between the two teams this season, with Albia claiming a 7-6 win back on May 31st. Despite taking a loss in the first meeting, Pella Christian outhit the Blue Demons 6-2 that night. A big reason the Eagles fell in that game was miscues when on defense. Pella Christian walked eight batters and committed five errors in the May contest and Head Coach Braden Shull said his team needs to be better in those areas to advance to the second round of districts.
“We’ve gotta take care of the baseball. Last time we played them, we had a lot of walks, and didn’t take care of the baseball. We shored some things up as far as some defensive strategy and plays that that should take care of some of that. And we know that they’re going to try to bunt, they’re gonna try to run, they’re gonna try to do things to create their own runs, so we’re gonna be ready for it.”
