The Pella Christian baseball team avenged an early season loss to Albia on Saturday in dominate fashion as they won their Class 2A first round district game 10-0 in five innings.
After a scoreless first inning, the Eagles took control of the game in the second frame. After scoring twice in top of the second and once in the third inning, Pella Christian blew the game wide open with a five run fourth inning that saw ten hitters come to the plate. The Eagles tacked on a pair of runs in the top of the fifth inning before closing out the Blue Demons in the bottom of the frame to grab the win via the run-rule. Pitcher Bennett Spronk had a phenomenal day for Pella Christian, notching the win after throwing 4 ⅔ innings of no-hit baseball with six strikeouts. In addition to his great pitching effort, Spronk also went 2-3 at the plate with a triple and three RBIs. Eagles Head Coach Braden Shull said it was great to see his squad execute to the level he knew they were capable.
“It just feels good to get to that huddle and only have one or two things that we need to improve on. It feels really good to look them in the eyes and say you did it, you executed, great job.”
With the win, Pella Chrsitian advances to take on Davis County in the Class 2A District 7 Quarterfinal on Tuesday at Mustang Sports Complex in Bloomfield.
