High temperatures will climb toward 100 today as a heat advisory continues across most of Iowa. According to the National Weather Service, heat index values will approach 110 by the afternoon and evening hours — outdoor activities are not advised at this time, and prolonged exposure without precautions could lead to heat exhaustion or stroke. Those who need to be outdoors should take frequent breaks in air conditioning and stay hydrated. Scattered thunderstorm chances return most evenings this week as well, as will increased severe weather possibilities through Thursday. The primary threats will be heavy rain, large hail, and damaging winds, although the storms will be hit-or-miss in nature. Slightly cooler conditions will settle in starting Wednesday, although the air will remain uncomfortable due to high humidity. Stay tuned to KNIA/KRLS for the latest weather information.
