The Pella Christian baseball team couldn’t find home plate offensively in a low scoring Class 2A substate quarterfinals game, falling to top-seed Davis County 1-0 Tuesday, as heard live on 92.1 KRLS.
A handful of small mistakes were magnified in Bloomfield as both the Eagles and Mustangs went with their ace pitchers. Bennett Spronk gave up a triple in the first inning and a wild pitch that followed — and it turned out to be the only run to score, and the senior only gave up two walks after, striking out 12 Mustangs’ batters. Pella Christian left seven in scoring position in the final four innings, including the bases loaded with two outs in the sixth. They also lost two baserunners trying to take extra bases throughout the game with no outs both times.
Pella Christian finishes the 2022 season at 9-19 overall and say farewell to five varsity seniors.
