The Pella softball team earned their first postseason win in four years in impressive fashion to kick off the Class 4A regional bracket, defeating Oskaloosa 14-4 Thursday, as heard live on 92.1 KRLS.

A fielding error in the bottom of the 1st gave the home team a 1-0 lead, but Pella scored the game’s next 14 runs between the 3rd and 6th innings, capped off by a seven-run top of the 6th that allowed the Dutch to earn a mercy rule victory despite giving up three scores in the bottom of that frame.

Junior Center Fielder Kylie Tauke had five hits in the effort in which eight of nine Pella players reached base via a hit, and she was proud of how the team worked to replicate the effort of their June 22nd 10-0 victory over Oskaloosa again this week.

FULL INTERVIEW WITH TAUKE:

Ava Curry was 3-for-5 with three runs scored, and Thea Wisse and Ella Corbin each had a pair of hits. Pitcher Saige DeJong gave up three earned runs in six innings, at one point setting down nine batters in a row. This is the first time since 2018 the Dutch softball team has won a postseason game and the second win in a row over Osky after snapping a 23-game skid to their Highway 163 rivals earlier this summer.

Pella improves to 14-21 overall and faces the daunting task of traveling to #1 in Class 4A Winterset in the Regional Semifinals Saturday night. Coverage will begin at approximately 6:30 p.m. on 92.1 KRLS.
