indianola-8

The #6 Indianola softball team trailed 7-4 heading into the final half-inning in the regional semifinal Saturday against North Polk, but scored four runs to win 8-7 in walkoff fashion as heard live on 94.3 KNIA.

The Indians scored first, getting RBI hits from Mara Bishop and Kiley Kindelspire to take a 2-0 lead in the third, only to see North Polk score four runs in the fourth to lead 4-2. The Indians came back to tie the score on a Kindelspire two-run home run in the fifth, but North Polk again struck for three runs in the sixth to put the Indians in dire straits.
Five singles and a walk punctuated the Indians scoring four runs in the bottom of the inning to save their season, with RBI hits from Jordyn Gripp and Izzy Sloan, and Hanna Graham getting the final two-run single to left to win the game.

Graham said after the game, while she got the final hit, it was her teammates that gave her the opportunity, and this was the penultimate team win.

“It’s just all a team aspect for us. We have to lean on each other, look for each other when times get tough and we are down like that. It was just a great effort by the entire team that 7th inning just to be up on the fence and cheering, and I had smart baserunners in front of me, I had not doubt in my mind we would get those baserunners across and win the game.”

Indianola advances to the regional final game on Tuesday, where they will host Glenwood, who upset #9 Creston.
