A potential heat wave is looming in south central Iowa starting this upcoming weekend and continuing long term through most of July. According to the National Weather Service Climate Prediction Center, well above average temperatures and below normal precipitation is expected starting in the middle of the month. High temperatures over the last two weeks of July may average into the low-to-mid 90s in the afternoon and evening hours, and an extended outlook also shows drought conditions may also begin to return to south central Iowa during that stretch.
