The senior tandem of Ali Mockenhaupt and Grace Bailey for the Twin Cedars Softball Squad is one of many reasons why the Sabers are one of the final eight teams standing in class 1A next week in Fort Dodge. Bailey is 17-3 while Mockenhaupt is 6-0, so Coach Zack Dunkin has no problem putting either of them in the circle in a big game. Being seniors, they also have the responsibility of leadership and Mockenhaupt tells KNIA/KRLS Sports it is a responsibility she takes seriously.
Mockenhaupt: “I think that’s really big with us being seniors. If we’re up the whole team is up and if we’re down then everyone is down so we have to be upbeat and positive even if we mess up and tells everyone when they mess up not to worry about it.”
Bailey and Mockenhaupt have combined to strike out 124 batters against just 17 walks and a combined 1.58 ERA. Twin Cedars will take on Lisbon Tuesday at the State Tournament in first round action. Hear the call on 92.1 KRLS. Also hear from Mockenhaupt and several Twin Cedars players on this week’s Radio Sports Page Wednesday at 6:00 and Thursday at 10:00 on KNIA/KRLS.
