Congresswoman Cindy Axne says much of her focus in Congress is working on a farm bill for the next several months, including budgeting for crop insurance, commodity programs, conservation programs, and SNAP benefits. Congresswoman Axne tells KNIA News there have been Republican Party proposals to cut the farm bill by $90 billion over ten years, and that will mean programs will be cut or reduced, and she won’t support that proposal.

“You take that down to what this means for farmers in Iowa and our rural communities, it means a heck of a lot of money won’t go towards programs that help them have higher yields, save money with inputs, and therefore have more money in their pockets to put back in their rural community which benefits all of our state. I see this as an economic hit on Iowa, and I will do everything I can to keep this agenda from moving forward.”

Axne also said there was a proposal to cut the subsidy for crop insurance to 30% and only for extensive damage, which she does not support. Listen to the full interview in In Depth with Dr. Bob Leonard.
