PRESS RELEASE FROM THE MARION COUNTY SHERIFF’S OFFICE:

On Saturday July 16th 2022, at 2:17 p.m., the Marion County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call of a personal injury accident on Highway 163 Westbound, near the intersection of 180th Avenue.

Initial investigation shows a car driven by a 41-year-old male struck the rear of a tractor driven by a 72-year-old male. The driver of the tractor was ejected and pronounced deceased on scene by rescue personnel. Both men are from the Otley area.

As of 4 p.m. Highway 163 Westbound is closed at the intersection of 180th avenue for approximately one mile. It is expected to reopen at 5:45 p.m.

The Marion County Sheriff’s Office, Pella Police Department, Pella Fire Department, Pella Community Ambulance, Iowa State Patrol, and Iowa Department of Transportation responded to the accident. The cause of the accident is under investigation.
