The Knoxville Police Department presented two Knoxville graduates, Jalen Nelson and Trenton Walraven, with scholarships. Jalen Nelson spoke with KNIA/KRLS News about what the scholarship means to her.

“I appreciate all of the support, it’s great to get support, but it’s even better when you get it from you hometown and where you come from. This scholarship coming from Knoxville just means that much extra and, hopefully, one day I can give back to the community.”

Trenton Walraven also spoke about what the scholarship means to him.

“It really means a lot to me to have the support of the Knoxville Police Department. It’s great that they not only serve people in the community but continue to serve community members after they leave the community.”

The scholarships are awarded to graduates of Knoxville that are in college studying in the field of criminal justice.
