The Iowa Girls Coaches Association has recognized Norwalk standouts Zadie Wadle and Nyah Hulbert on its 2022 All-District Softball teams.
Wadle, a junior, and Hulbert, a freshman, both had breakout seasons on the diamond this summer and were two of just 14 players named to the IGCA’s Class 4A Southeast All-District Team.
Wadle bounced back from an injury-plagued sophomore season to become one of the top 4A pitchers in the state, ranking third in both wins and strikeouts. In 21 starts and 27 appearances in the circle, Wadle went 19-5 with three saves and a 1.77 earned run average. She allowed just 99 hits and 29 walks in 138 ⅔ innings, striking out an impressive 215 batters using sharp location and an arsenal of pitches.
Wadle, who also played first base, held opponents to a .176 batting average and posted a final WHIP of 0.92. At the plate, Wadle improved throughout the year and finished with a .311 batting average, three doubles and 14 RBI.
Hulbert, the Warriors’ left fielder, settled nicely into the role of leadoff batter and set the table offensively with a .489 batting average, .548 on-base percentage and .685 slugging. Hulbert provided a nice mix of power and speed, totaling three home runs, seven doubles, one triple and 19 stolen bases while scoring 33 runs and driving in 21.
Wadle and Hulbert helped lead the Warriors to a 30-8 overall record and a runner-up finish in the Little Hawkeye Conference at 18-3. Norwalk concluded the season with a top-six finish at the 4A State Tournament this past week, making its first trip to Fort Dodge since 2014.
