Kicking off our countdown of the top 10 sports moment of the 2021-2022 school year at Pella Christian is the final conference game of the Eagles softball season, when P.C. pulled off an exciting 7-6 comeback victory in the second game of their Senior Night doubleheader against Pella.
After losing game one 7-6, the Eagles found themselves trailing 1-0 after the top of the first inning. Pella Christian tied the game in the second inning, when Emma Eekhoff came into score from an error off the bat of Claire Braafhart. Both teams pushed across their second runs of the game in the third inning to keep the game tied, before Pella recaptured the lead in the fifth inning and extended it to four runs in the top of the sixth.
The Eagles battled back to shrink the deficit to one in the bottom of the frame, with a solo home run from Eekhoff and a two-RBI double by Alexa Dunsbergen. Pella Christian worked around a one-out single to head into their final at-bat trailing by just one run. Emri Agre led off the bottom of the seventh with a double and advanced to third on a sacrifice bunt by Faith Kacmarynski. After a Natalie Harrill bunt single, Agre tied the game on a wild pitch, while Harrill was thrown out at third base. With a 1-1 count, Eekhoff homered for the second inning in a row to give Pella Christian the 7-6 walk-off victory.
Pella Christian finished the regular season 9-21 and won their first-round regional game at Colfax-Mingo 5-3 before their season ended with a 10-0 loss at Van Meter.
