A return to the team state competition for the Pella tennis program and one of the more grueling days on the courts for its top individual this past spring combine to get to #9 on the countdown of top stories from Pella High School in 2021-22.
Emily Blom battled blistering heat to qualify for the state individual tournament on Wednesday, May 11th on Eagle Lane by dominating the field and winning the singles bracket. She would later finish 6th in Class 1A on May 27th and 28th in her second consecutive appearance among Iowa’s best.
BLOM INTERVIEW BEFORE INDIVIDUAL STATE TENNIS:
Less than one week removed from the individual qualifier, the Dutch team returned to Eagle Lane and avenged a 2021 loss in the playoffs against Pella Christian to win the Class 1A regional final and advance to team state. Pella fell to Davenport Assumption in the quarterfinals to end a strong spring campaign.
