Looking back on the top 10 moments of the 2021-2022 sports year at Pella Christian, boys’ tennis player Alejo Marcon provides us with our #5 moment following a run to State. After not having a boys tennis program for nearly a decade, the senior Marcon qualified as an individual for the Class 1A state tournament in Des Moines on May 24th and 25th.
Marcon faced St. Albert’s Carter White in his first match at the state meet and was a 6-2, 6-4 winner. After falling in his quarterfinal match, the senior bounced back in the second round of the consolation bracket to defeat Joshua Roozeboom of Pella 6-4, 6-2. Marcon then ran the gauntlet in the consolation bracket, defeating Clarinda’s Nathan Brown (6-4, 6-2) and Wahlert’s Roan Martineau (6-3, 6-4) to bring home a 5th place finish among singles players at State.
Marcon, a two-sport athlete at Pella Christian, will continue his tennis and soccer careers at Central College this school year.
