At the Knoxville City Council meeting on Monday, council reduced the speed limit on a portion of Willetts Drive. The speed limit will be reduced from 35 to 25 miles per hour between Howard and Bell streets. The speed limit was approved by council in part to make it safer for drivers en route to school.
They also approved pay for Police Reserve Officers who will now get compensated for working special events and for school events. Council approved paying the reserve, with a budget set at a maximum of $10,000. Knoxville Police Chief Aaron Fuller suggested paying the reserves up to $20 per hour.
There are currently eight reserve officers in Knoxville. Fuller said with the approval it will make it easier for his department to recruit reserves.
