The #2 moment on the countdown of Pella Christian’s top 10 sports stories of this past school year comes from the track and field program, as they kept up their tradition of success this season with nine athletes making an appearance at the state track and field meet May 19th-21st.
Levi Schelhaas earned Elite All-State honors for the second consecutive season, as his 400-meter dash (48.94) was second quickest among all classes and in Class 2A. Levi added a fifth-place finish in the 200 Meters (22.49) and anchored the Eagles second place finishing Sprint Medley Relay team with Drew Geetings, Luke Nikkel, and Daniel Andringa, (1:33.98). Trevor Veenstra had a throw of 142-02 in the discus to give Pella Christian a ninth-place finish in the event. In the girl’s high jump, Cara Veenstra came in 10th place clearing the bar at 5-00.00. The Eagles boys 4×400m relay team finished 11th in the event with a run of 3:29.55. Danny Andringa came in 14th in the boys 400m dash (:51.73), while Anna DeBoef was 20th in the girls 400m dash (1:03.44). Running in the 400m hurdles for just the fourth time ever, Peyton Ritzert finished 21st in Class 2A with a time of :59.03. Ryan Natelborg rounded out the state finishers for Pella Christian with a 22nd place finish in 1600m run (4:48.61).
