The recent official shortage has not only hit larger schools, but it may be tougher on smaller schools. Several instances area schools had to cancel sporting events whether it was varsity or another level of play because they could not find officials for the games. Twin Cedars Athletic Director Theresa Davis tells KNIA/KRLS Sports in some instances they had to use just one official for a baseball or softball game.
Davis: “We did have a couple that were rescheduled and we had a couple that were tough to get people for, we had one night that we had just one baseball umpire and it was hard for him, and it really makes it tricky.”
Davis says for the most part the officials have been scheduled for the fall sports and she is appreciative of the previous administration.
