The Pella Christian volleyball team begins their season August 27th, and the Eagles will look to test a new training focus they’ve been working on this offseason.
Pella Christian ended last season in the second round of regional play having to face arguably the best team in the state in Class 2A’s eventual state champions, Dike-New Hartford. At an offseason camp the team attended this summer, Eagles Head Coach Tammi Wight received some advice from a college coach to help them train for the tough schedule they will face throughout the season.
“The one thing that he said to me that has kind of stuck with me is we need to train to play them (Dike-New Hartford) every for every match. And so, we can’t train just to play the easy matches. We don’t train to win just the easy ones or the ones we’re supposed to. We’re going to train to play Dike-New Hartford, and if we train to play them, we’re going to beat a lot of teams because we trained to play the best. So, I think that’s our focus and then we just get in there and work harder and good things will happen.”
The Eagles open the season with a weekend tournament at Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont on August 27th.
